This is not an upgraded 40Gb unit. It comes direct from Thomson with the 160Gb hard drive already fitted.
(The Thomson web site quotes 160Gb but a large amount of the drive is used for the Sky operating system and
depending on the set up, the usable space, as stated also on the Thomson web site, is between 80Gb and 160Gb.

The record menus are an integral part of the electronic program guide and so the operation is extremely
simple. Much easier to use than a VCR. Please note that a Sky+ must be used with a Sky subscription if
the hard drive is to be used for recording. It cannot be used just for free to air channels or with
a “Freesat card” as the hard drive would not work. If upgrading or changing from an existing
box / card / subscription, Sky must activate the card to work with the new Sky+ or the hard drive
will not work. A phone call to Sky is all that is needed to do this.

ADVICE ON DISH SIZES IN SPAIN.

Dish sizes need to be quoted to receive every channel. Smaller dishes can be used and since
some channels are more powerful than others, the small dish will work on a percentage of
channels but not all of them. The BBC and the ITV are the weakest channels, and so unless
the dish is big enough to receive every channel, it will not be big enough to receive
the BBC and the ITV (although many other Sky channels could be received with smaller dishes)
In addition it is important to note that there are 2 beams aimed at Spain. The north and
the south beam. The BBC and the ITV are not on the south beam but many Sky channels are.
The south beam can be received anywhere in Spain on an 80cm dish. To find out which.
channels are on the south beam go to www.astra.lu where you will you can research
what each beam carries on the Astra satellite. The North beam carries every channel.
As far as the north beam is concerned, customer feedback over the last year has provided
the following information on dish size recommendations.
Costa Brava 1.0m. Madrid, 1.2m Southern Spain and Portugal 1.6m. North Alicante (weak spot) 2.4m dish
Just south of to Alicanti 1.8m dish.

Gibertini offset feedhorn



Designed for the Gibertini 1.2m and 1.5m offset dishes. The feed has a 23mm neck but it comes with
23mm to 40 mm spacers. Using a matched feedhorn for the Gibertini dish and a C120 LNB should
provide a better signal to noise ratio than using a standard 40mm LNB.
Gibertini have discontinued this feedhorn.
Please note we have had excellent results using the Andrews feedhorn

Very high gain one piece proven design. Gain is a massive 45.5 dBi (Ku band)
A ground stand of about 1.3m height or a pole sunk into concrete is required.
We do two types of fixed AZEL mounts that fit in the back of the dish. (See options below).
1. To fit a 4.5 inch diameter pole - this is the normal one that is included.
2. We know in Spain it is difficult, if not impossible, to find 4.5-inch Dia. poles and so
we do a fixed AZEL mount for this dish that fits a 76mm (3-inch) diameter pole. This mount
is exclusive to the Satellite Superstore and is included in the second option.

The one piece reflector is thermoset-molded glass fiber reinforced polyester for
strength and rigidity and surface accuracy.

Ground Stand for the 1.8m Andrews dish





Dish option. Manufactured by the Satellite Superstore. This is our own stand. It is 1.25m high and uses a
115mm (4.5") pole. Heavy 6mm thick angle is used along the base and the angle dimensions are 60mm by 60mm.
There are 12 holes for fixing down to concrete or paving. 4 in each angle. See bottom right picture.
It is etch-primed and pained black. The final coat of paint is baked in an oven dried.
The stand is bolted together to make it easy to ship. A fully welded stand of this size could not
be transported with a courier and would need a (expensive) haulage company, so this stand bolts
together. Multiple bolts are used for maximim rigidity. The stand is heavy but it needs to be.

Ground stand for the 2.4m Andrews dish



Manufactured by the Satellite Superstore. This is our own stand. It is 1.6m high and uses a 6.5" pole.
There are 24 holes for fixing down to concrete or paving. 8 in each corner.
It is etch-primed and pained black. The final coat of paint is baked in an oven dried.
The stand is bolted together to make it easy to ship. A fully welded stand of this size could not
be transported with a courier and would need a (expensive) haulage company, so this stand bolts
together. Multiple bolts are used for maximim rigidity. The stand is heavy but it needs to be.
To buy the stand separately go to 2.4m dish stand. This is a discounted
option and is only available if you are also buying the 2.4m dish.

You can choose the default dataset, 1 to 6 below and it will be loaded into the meter for you.
You can purchase a USB stick as an option with the meter and all 6 datasets will be on the stick for you. The
loader program is built into every dataset. All you have to do is double click the dataset icon and the loader opens.
Adding a new dataset to your meter is very easy. The update is done using a USB lead (included with the meter).
A (blank) USB stick has been available on our site at about £10 for over a year. We are not looking to charge
customers for the datasets.
Use with a caravan or motorhome - any of the datasets will be fine but if visiting Spain best to choose option 6.
For setting up a Sky dish or freesat any of the datasets will be fine (but use option 6 in Spain.
For a 3 or 4 sat fixed dish choose datasets 1, 2, 3 or 6
For setting up a motorised dish choose datasets 4 or 5 (You only need an eastern, a western and a centre
satellite to set up a motorised dish) For maximum capability on a wide range of satellites choose the USB
stick option. UK installers (or caravan users) would mainly need to identify Astra 2 at 28E (freesat or Sky)
for setting up a fixed dish.
