Our tests.
Here at Satellite Superstore we do not introduce a new receiver to our product range without extensively testing
it first. Here are the results of the tests. SD and HD picture quality – excellent – as good as it gets.
Recording on the hard drive. Works like a Sky + and Sky HD in that it has many similar trick play facilities
like live pause etc. Playback of HD files in full HD – no problems – perfect recordings.
No. of channels. Linux boxes tend to be virtually unlimited. With other makes they can exceed 20,000 channels
which is 3 times the number available in the Sky on a standard motorized dish.
Menu structure – easy to use. Build quality - excellent - see picture. Software support - good.
Alpha numeric display on the front of receiver details channel names and menu information. Picture in picture.
(See screen shot below) Can play back MP3, picture and DIVX, (video), files from it’s internal hard drive using
the music or photo button on the handset. Files can be loaded into the internal drive using an FTP program.
It can also play back MP3 files and display pictures that are on the internal drive inside your PC providing
the PC is connected to the same network 2 cam slots and 2 card readers – the card readers can be configured
with 3rd party software but please note that we can’t support info. on 3rd part software. This is the first
HD twin tuner PVR we have seen with embedded card readers.
Web interface – control the receiver from any computer. Stream video to any computer.
Conclusion. This is the first high definition Linux twin tuner PVR we have seen and it is a first class
flagship model. Very impressed.

Update Oct. 08 We are now loading channel data into all AB IP Boxes. About 20 satellites,
many channels from all of the main satellites are being scanned in for you. Astra 2, Astra 1, Hotbird and many
other satellites. The makes for a plug in and use straight away receiver on a fixed dish and mostly programmed
for you on a motorised dish. Clearly this also means that your receiver has been fully tested before shipping.

Hard copy English manuals are included. Every receiver is individually tested even to the extent of a test
recording on the hard drive.

This is the reliable Pace TDS470N 160 Gb Sky Plus.
This is not an upgraded 40Gb unit. It comes direct from Pace with the 160Gb hard drive already fitted.
(The Pace web site quotes 160Gb but a large amount of the drive is used for the Sky operating system and

The record menus are an integral part of the electronic program guide and so the operation is extremely
simple. Much easier to use than a VCR. Please note that a Sky+ must be used with a Sky subscription if

a “Freesat card” as the hard drive would not work. If upgrading or changing from an existing
box / card / subscription, Sky must activate the card to work with the new Sky+ or the hard drive

The embedded hard drive is not a computer drive and cannot be bought from computer stores
or on-line computer suppliers. It is an AV drive developed for digital AV recording
applications. These drives are normally only supplied to the big manufacturers of
DVD writers, digital VCRs, satellite receiver PVRs, security digital time shift recorders etc.
These drives have been specially designed for AV use offering cool running high video
recording performance and as such tend to be a little more expensive than computer
"data recording" hard drives. The problem with normal computer (data) drives is that
they can pixillate or produce freezing while playback, or fail completely
resulting in valuable recordings are lost! or produce too much heat.
These excellent AV drives are inside all of our Dreambox 7025-Si PVRs that we sell and as
such are thoroughly tried and tested and sold in large numbers without any problems at all.

then move and arrange the channels into a logical order. Some good free channels are moved to
the start of each satellite. Channels are moved into their packages. Adult channels are grouped
together near the start of the Hotbird. If you are buying a complete system, this option also
helps take some of the work out of the system setting up process as to tune channels a dish
first needs setting up. The pre-programmed channels are useful to help set up the dish if you
are using a budget meter. You are not on satellite to scan the channels and you cannot find the
satellite as there are no channels scanned in to help you.
A programmed receiver breaks the circle and helps to set up and install a system.

Option. Buying a fully loaded (programmed)
satellite receiver for motorised use.
This service is available for any motorised dish. If you are buying a system, or just a receiver
and you already have a motorised dish, we can take the receiver out of its box and fully program
it on one of our demonstration dishes. This would mean that the new programmed receiver can be
connected up by the customer and all the satellites channels will work straight away.
(Providing it is connected to a dish that is properly fitted, set up, and tracking the arc)
It would take a customer about 2 hours (or longer) to program a receiver (since there would be
unfamiliarity with the installation menu system). After programming, the channels are then organised
in a logical order. (This is what takes the most time.) We make sure the first channel on every
satellite is a clear free to air unscrambled channel. Channels are organised into a logical order.
e.g. Adult channels all together etc. Movie packages .. etc. Moving all of the channels into a
logical order can take days. This programming is ONLY £19.95 This service is entirely optional
but for mail order customers it can take a great deal of the worry and uncertainty out of a
purchase. The programmed receiver is supplied without dish positions to be used with any dish.
Only the positions and the limits need to be added. This is a 10 minute job. This option is
ideal if you are buying a full motorised system below and you intend to fit it yourself.
This option helps a great deal. It also makes it easier to install a motorised dish as channels
already loaded can help identify the satellite if a budget meter is being used. Detailed
installation notes written by us are included and we can talk you through the installation

It all works with the existing UHF distribution system in your home.
Control up to three devices. One remote link eye includes for one remote room. Extra
SLX link eyes for more rooms are abailable below.
Connect up the link to the satellite receiver and the TV link at the end of the cable in the remote
room and have full contol of the satellite receiver from that room.

UHF Modulator
Many high definition receivers do not have a UHF modulator built into them (this is the Aerial in and out
connections on the back) The reason for this is that manufacturers do not consider UHF to be of sufficiently high
quality to justified inclusion in an HD receiver. However, many people do have a UHF distribution system in their
home so that they can view channels in many rooms. If the only outputs on a receiver are scart and HDMI it
is not possible to connect into the distribution system and “pipe” the satellite around the house.
This modulator solves this problem. You can scart the satellite signal into the modulator and feed the UHF output into the
distribution system. The frequency (channel) can be set so that it does not interfere with other
items (aerial, DVD etc.) that may also be on the system. This is a very useful product.

You will also find options for the fitting of a twin or quad LNB as a substitution
with ONE of the 3 or 4 LNBs so that a popular satellite can go to several receivers.
e.g. putting a twin or quad in the 28E position so that a Sky digibox or Sky + can
be connected as well as the CI receiver to that LNB That means the CI receiver and the
Sky box both are connected to 28E but the CI receiver is also connected to other
satellites through ONE diseqc switch.
You will not find on our site 2.3 or 4 satellite kits with twin or quad LNBs and
more than one diseqc switch to either two receivers or a twin tuner receiver.
REASON.
Whilst it should all work in theory, in practice
(depending on the combination of switch positions) you can get no signal on a
satellite when it should all work. This is because twin LNBs and Quad LNB should
be fully connected to work properly. It may be OK to connect to two outputs of a quad
but you have to experiment to find out which two. With a twin, one side has a good
connection to the internal power supply circuit and the other is almost like a passive
device and relies on power from the second receiver to work properly
If you connect two or more diseqc switches, they take power away from some of the
outputs of the twin or quad LNBs (depending on the switching at the time) and
things go wrong.
IS THERE A SOLUTION?
Yes there is - a new solution - but quite expensive. It will be on our site soon as
an option on all of the twin tuner receiver pages eventually but see it at
multiswitches
The 9 in and 6 out and the 17 in an 6 out ...etc. This is a product designed to
do the job. Quatro LNBs must be used but all the switching is done inside the unit
and there are no power issues
